About this site
Volley Central explains the rules of volleyball, how they changed inside living memory, and the competitions the game is played in.
The sport is unusual in that its scoring was rewritten in the recent past. Rally point scoring arrived in 1999, the libero was written into the rulebook in 1998, and a serve that clips the net has been live since 2000. Those three changes altered the length of a match, the shape of a squad and the value of a single bad pass, and most of what a spectator sees on court follows from them.
The site is organised in four sections: scoring, the libero, the rotation, and where the game is actually played. Each section has its own landing page and its own guides, and the archive lists all fifteen in one place.
What the site does not carry: results, tables, fixtures, transfers or squad lists. Players are named where the record is documented and the year is attached.
